A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Taylor graduated in 1974 from Queens University of Charlotte with a BA in Art with additional studies at The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1980, she and Dot Hodges founded Hodges Taylor Gallery in Charlotte, North Carolina where she served as managing partner for 32 years. Now retired, she is an advisor with Hodges Taylor Art Consultancy LLC, a consulting firm specializing in promoting original art in the workplace.
Since 2012, Christie Taylor has lived on the Chincoteague Bay in the Eastern Shore of Maryland. This move has given her the opportunity to return to painting and explore her favorite subject - the salt marshes. Her painting heroes are John Marin and David Park - and all the artists she has represented.
In 2017, Taylor received a Ballinglen Arts Foundation Fellowship. She spent five weeks painting in County Mayo, Ireland. (11/8 to 12/15). She returned to Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ballycastle, Ireland in 2018 ( 11/6 to 12/14) to continue painting the Irish landscape.
